Response to Prompts- Isabel Brennan
Vermont produces many different types of food, some more popular than others. Some foods and companies that Vermont is know for and famous for are: Maple Syrup, Cabot Cheese, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, Champlain Chocolates, and also King Arthur Flour. There are many other foods that Vermont produces, such as corn, apples, milk, butter and other dairy, wine, berries, potatoes, lettuce, beans, and many other types of foods. One of my favorite locally produced foods is corn because its delicious, easy to find, not too expensive, and easy to cook. There are many fish and animal products produced by Vermont, such as pork, beef, deer, many different types of fish and also a variety of poultry. With all of these types of food produced in our state, you would think that the schools all have food that is produced locally, right? For some schools, thats not the case. Mt.Abe has improved so much over the last couple of years with the meals that they produce. Mt.Abe has a garden where they grow lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, and many other vegetables. All of those vegetables are used to make the school lunches, which is really great. There are also other products at Mt.Abe that are locally produced, such as Cabot Cheese, and Monument Farms Milk. At Mt.Abe, it used to be all greasy, gross food that was served, like chicken patties, fish burgers, and curly fries. Its good to know that I am now eating food that is locally produced, because that also means that I am supporting near-by farms and businesses.
